Former Arizona State University men's basketball student-athlete Shawn Redhage has been named to the Australian Olympic basketball team, which will compete in Beijing in August.

Redhage, who was a member of the ASU basketball team from 1999-2003, will be attempting to help Australia win its first medal in Olympic basketball competition. Their best results to this point have been fourth-place finishes in 1988, 1992 and 2000.

Australia is in Group A, along with 2004 gold medal winner Argentina, Iran, Lithuania, Russia and a team to be determined at a qualifying tournament, which will be held July 14-20. Group play is scheduled for Aug. 10-18, and the top four teams from Group A and B advance to the quarterfinals on Aug. 20. The semifinals will be played on Aug. 22, with the gold and bronze medal games taking place on Aug. 24.

Redhage played in 122 games during his four-year Sun Devil career, averaging 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the field. As a senior in 2002-03, he helped ASU reach the NCAA Tournament, and he scored 18 points in the Devils' first-round victory over Memphis.
