Stepping to the mound for her senior season, Katie Burkhart is already the most successful and dominant pitchers to ever grace the field for Arizona State. Burkhart now holds nearly every pitching record in Sun Devil history and is looking to inch her way up the Pac-10 and NCAA records in both wins and strikeouts. Last season Burkhart bested her own ASU records from 2006 in every category as she compiled a 1.11 ERA, 35 wins and 517 strikeouts. Her 35 wins bested the ASU single-season record of Erica Beach's 33 in 2002, as well as tying for 10th all-time in Pac-10 history. Katie also topped her own single-season strikeout record of 420 from the 2006 season with nearly 100 more strikeouts with her final tally of 517, good for ninth all-time in NCAA single-season history as well as a new Pac-10 single-season record. Katie now stands at first, second and seventh in single-season strikeouts in ASU history as well. With her affinity for strikeouts, Katie also holds the ASU career strikeout record with her current total of 1,157, with another year to go to build her total. With her entrance into the 1,000+ career strikeout list, Katie enters an elite group which only 30 other pitchers in NCAA history have entered. Her current total places her 19th all-time in NCAA history and fourth in Pac-10 career history. In addition, Burkhart has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week six times, three alone in the 2007 season. She was also one of the ten finalists for the 2007 USA Softball's National Player of the Year award, along with teammate Kaitlin Cochran. One of her main highlights of the 2007 season came on March, 15 where she pitched the first perfect game in ASU history in the Sun Devils' 3-0 win over Notre Dame. Thanks to her amazing work on the field over the last two seasons, Katie has been invited twice to tryouts for USA National Team, where she spent the last two summers. While the list of her accolades and awards could go on forever, the main highlights of Katie's career include: - PAC 10 Pitcher of The Year (ASU's First ever) - NFCA First Team All American - First Team All PAC 10 - First Team All Pacific Region - USA Player of The Week (ASU's First ever) - Honda Award Nominee - Helped win gold medal for USA University Team in 2006 World University Games in Taiwan The 2004 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School was named All-State in 2004, as well as the All-County MVP in both 2003 and 2004. Her parents are Bill and Debbie Burkhart of San Luis Obispo.
